Case Histories

The service we provide is both confidential and discreet and as such we will not refer to clients without their prior consent, however, here are some examples of cases we have recently dealt with....

* A child pornography case where the defendant was convicted in the Magistrates court, but on appeal we were able to provide crucial evidence showing that all the websites visited bore disclaimers that 'all the models were over 18'. We contacted the Site Operators who substantiated this claim and the appeal was upheld.

* A civil case involving the importation of products from the Far East - our examination of computer data showed that a former employee was directly involved in the manufacture and supply of 'copied' goods, and that he had been using documentation and information stolen from his former employer - estimated to have cost his former employers in excess of three and a half million pounds.

* A Rape case involving mobile phone evidence, which had been submitted by the Police to a firm of mobile phone experts for examination. When we examined the phone, on behalf of the defendants solicitor, it was clear that the experts employed by the police had failed to detect a large number of incoming and outgoing Multimedia Messages (MMS). The evidence provided by us regarding these messages resulted in the charge being dropped.

* An 'Operation Ore' case, where we were able to show that the images on the defendant's computer were the result of indiscriminate 'pop-ups'. The CPS offered no evidence upon reading our report.

*A Conspiracy to Murder case, where we successfully showed that a Global Positioning Satellite system did not track the position of a taxi correctly. Further investigation of the computer evidence showed that the defendants were NOT where the Police alleged they were, leading to the acquittal of the defendants.

* A Protection of Children Act case, where we demonstrated that the Prosecution's case was seriously flawed since it hinged on the use of a password-protected computer system. We demonstrated that the password system was NOT working, which contradicted several prosecution witnesses, as did other evidence of the computer's use during a specified period. The Crown offered no further evidence.

* An Employment Tribunal involving an allegation that a computer used by the applicant had sexually explicit material placed on it by other members of staff. We were asked to examine the computer following a Court Order and found that despite a professional attempt to 'cleanse' the computer's hard drive, we were able to recover a significant amount of emails containing pornographic material.

* A civil case where we demonstrated that an expensive 'Electronic Point-of-Sale' (EPOS) computer system did not function 'as described', and was therefore 'not fit for the purpose' for which it was sold.

* A case in the Republic of Ireland where, after working closely with the client and his counsel, he was found 'not guilty' of possessing indecent images of children at the Four Courts.

* An Operation ORE case which was stopped mid-trial by Judge Wide after we successfully proved that there was no case to answer. The prosecution simply could not prove WHO had been using the computer at the time the images had been downloaded.

* A protection of Children Act case where we successfully demonstrated that a number of 'Trojans' had infected the computer, which, when reverse engineered, demonstrated that they were designed to automate visits to websites of indecent nature.

* A Protection of Children Act case where we were able to show that someone other than the defendant had been responsible for downloading the indecent images. we also showed that the Police had been negligent in their handling of the computer evidence. The CPS withdrew their case on submission of our report.

* In 2006 we were involved in the well documented child pornography investigation by the Irish Parliament of retired Judge Brian Curtin.
